Denise Richards has claimed her ex-husband Charlie Sheen wanted to “bleed her dry” with costly legal bills during their divorce procedure.
The 48-year-old actress-turned-reality TV star wed the Two and a Half Men actor in June 2002 and they went on to have daughters Sam, 15, and 14-year-old Lola. She filed for divorce in March 2005, and they finalised the proceedings in November the following year.
During an appearance on the Daddy Issues podcast on Wednesday, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star insisted Sheen, 53, tried to sabotage her during their separation.
“Back during the show I did at E! (Denise Richards: It’s Complicated), I had to do that. I had too many legal bills with my ex-husband,” she shared. “He said he wanted to bleed me dry, and he did. Those legal fees add up quite fast.”
Richards went on to explain how the split further impacted her career choices, adding: “It was difficult for me to get a job back then because I was perceived as doing something very (negative) with Charlie, so that was very hard… When you’re misunderstood and you want to keep your personal life private and when it’s out there.”
Last year, Richards married boyfriend Aaron Phypers, after the pair began dating a year earlier. In May, the star announced Phypers planned to legally adopt her third child, Eloise Joni Richards, who she adopted back in 2011.
