Celine Dion has shared the real reason why she wept at Valentino’s latest couture show.
The Canadian superstar attended the Italian luxury label’s fashion extravaganza held as part of Paris Couture Week in January, and at one point, was spotted brushing away tears as she watched the models parade down the runway.
But in a chat with U.S. Elle magazine, Celine explained that it wasn’t just the beautiful garments that had caused her to become emotional.
“It was not clothes – it was magic, a fairy tale. The first song was (Roberta Flack’s 1969 hit) The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, which was part of my wedding,” she recalled, before referring to her late husband Rene Angelil, who passed away at the age of 73 in 2016. “The music starts and this dream comes, a lady, a beautiful rose. All you saw was her face in this amazing pink gown. It was so emotional; I was speechless. I didn’t want to cry. I was worried Mr. Valentino was looking at my reaction. To be honest, it felt like I was making a scene, but I was overwhelmed.”
In recent years, Celine has stepped out in a number of eye-catching ensembles, with the outfits put together by celebrity stylist Law Roach – the man behind actress Zendaya and singer Ariana Grande’s red carpet looks.
Regarding her love of clothes, the mother-of-three says her passion for fashion has no boundaries.
“I love fashion a lot, definitely. For me, fashion is art. It’s a way of expressing yourself. When I put something on, I play. I don’t take myself seriously. I kind of, like, borrow a character,” the 51-year-old insisted, before adding that she doesn’t see herself as a style icon. “I don’t know, I just do one day at a time, do the best I can, feel the way that I want to feel. That’s the most important thing.”
