‘Black Panther’ Costume Designer Ruth E. Carter Opens New York Fashion Week
Oscar-nominated Black Panther costume designer Ruth E. Carter, along with IMG and Harlem Fashion Row – kicked off New York Fashion Week with a curated debut installation of her iconic work, entitled Next of Kin, in collaboration with British fashion stylist Ibrahim Kamara.
The IMG x Harlem Fashion Row installation displayed over 35 of Carter’s looks, spanning her work on over 50 films and collaborations with filmmaker Spike Lee, to commemorate Black History Month.
One of the hottest international models of the moment, Alton Mason, was in attendance. Just a month ago, Alton became the first black male model to take part in a Chanel runway show in the brand’s 109-year history.
Miss Universe Catriona Gray arrived with Miss USA Sarah Rose Summers at the event. Both will be attending a full schedule of shows for New York Fashion Week. “I’m really looking forward to trying out some new styles and makeup trends during #NYFW,” added Miss Universe, though we’ll be seeing her more on the front row, rather than on the runway this season.
Other celebrities in attendance included Karolina Kurkova, Chanel Iman, Bozoma Saint John, Odell Beckham, Jr, and Victor Cruz.
