Alexa Chung has responded to Melania Trump wearing her one of her coat dresses.
The First Lady of America was photographed on the steps of the White House with her husband Donald Trump in March last year when they met the Czech Republic Prime Minister Andrej Babis and his wife Monika Babisova.
Melania was wearing a dark green leather double-breasted coat dress from Alexa’s eponymous label, that was cinched in at the waist with a belt, and retailed for $1,585 (£1,252).
When quizzed by Britain’s Daily Telegraph for her opinion on the controversial First Lady wearing one of her designs, Alexa simply replied: “Good on her for really loving fashion.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the 36-year-old revealed she’s been taking style inspiration from the films she’s watching during lockdown, including the 1985 romantic drama Out of Africa, starring Meryl Streep.
“It has got a bit housewife-y dream… I’ve been very influenced by film during lockdown,” she shared, noting that she was on a mission to find a similar pair of shorts worn by Meryl in the movie.
“I really had to hunt down those safari shorts. No one was doing them, but I thought some label has to have designed them by mistake. And Max Mara was the one,” Alexa quipped.
She also revealed she’s been working “every day” on designing new pieces for her eponymous fashion line and has been enjoying wearing impractical dresses while at home, including a peach floor-length dress.
“When you don’t go out much you don’t have to think about the practicalities so much,” she laughed.
