South African-born Zimbabwean golfer Nick Price is celebrating his 62nd birthday today. To celebrate the day of his birth we are sharing some interesting facts about Nick Price.

  • Nick Price was born in Durban, South Africa, but raised in Zimbabwe. His parents were originally British, his father was from England and his mother was from Wales.
  • Price served in the Rhodesian (now Zimbabwe) Air Force during the country’s Bush War.
  • He is a dual citizen of the United Kingdom and Zimbabwe.
  • Nick Price’s nephew Ray Price plays cricket for Zimbabwe’s national team.

  • Nick Price turned professional at the age of 20 in 1977. He played on the European Tour during those early years. He earned his first win as a professional golfer at the 1980 Swiss Open.
  • In the mid-1990s, Nick Price was regarded as the best golfer in the world. In 1994 he won two back-to-back majors, The Open and the PGA Championship. The first major he won was the 1992 PGA Championship.
  • Nick Price topped the PGA Tour money list in 1993 and 1994, each time setting a new earnings record. He spent 43 weeks at number one in the Official World Golf Rankings over that period.
