Goodluck Aim To Inspire With New Single ‘Be Yourself’

Local electronic group Goodluck has had an incredibly successful run with their SAMA-winning third studio album ‘The Nature Within’ and as they end off the era, they’ve picked ‘Be Yourself’ as the next single – and it’s their most important single off the project to date. The song is a collaboration with Dutch DJ and producer Boris Smith and tackles the topic of being happy with who you are and valuing your self-worth.

After the international impact the #MeToo and #StepUp campaigns have had on the entertainment industry, people are finally speaking out about injustices and while most of them include rape and sexual harassment, bullying has also fallen into this category. With ‘Be Yourself’s positive message, the group knew that now was the perfect time to release the track as a single.

Not only does the song carry a positive message, but it’s also a track that sees the group celebrate the impact both electronic and African music has had on them. The song sees the group gear into a new sonic direction and the track is filled with wonderful sounds and compositions they’ve yet to dabble in. The music video perfectly accompanies the track as it celebrates the diversity of the human race and encourages each and every viewer to live their truth and be the best version of themselves.

“This is my favourite track off our latest album [The Nature Within] as I was doing a lot of soul searching at the time whilst writing the lyrics – it’s an honest look into one’s self-worth and encourages everyone to be who they are and ignore the pressure to conform. There are so many people in the world and we’ re all especially unique. We should not just fit in and have the courage to stop worrying about what everyone else thinks. It’s an uplifting track and pushes you to dance how you want to dance and ultimately be happy.’’

The song has also inspired the group to give back. The group has donated R15 000 and signed up to cycle 109kms for Bridges For Music. They’ve also promised to remove one item of clothing for every R5000 donated – so things could get incredibly racy.

‘Be Yourself’ has an incredibly important message and we commend artists like Goodluck for using their voices to inspire those around them. The single drops on radio stations across the country today and features on their hit record ‘The Nature Within’ which is available in store and on your favourite digital platform now.
