Fancois Louw tells us about his recent holiday to Greece.

Where have you travelled to recently?
I was fortunate enough to visit the country of Greece. The cities I went to were Athens, Mykonos and Santorini.

How many hours did you spend in transit/travelling?
It was not that bad. We took a SAA flight from Johannesburg to Munich. The flight was 11 hours. We spent 45 minutes at the Munich Airport. From there you take a direct flight to Athens which is only 2 hours. From Athens it is easy to get around to all the different islands.

Do you prefer a window or an aisle seat?
I prefer an aisle seat. It is just easier to move around the plane then.

What’s in your carry on bag?
Everything! My entire skincare routine. My flying PJ’s, a book, warm jacket and my compression socks.

Resorts/hotels that you stayed in?
Santorini – The Ambassador Santorini Hotel, an enclave of luxury and romance in Akrotiri, one of Santorini’s least exploited areas, is located just a few minutes from the famous ancient settlement that attracts thousands of visitors every year. The stunning location of the villas is just the prelude to what can be summarized as the ultimate Santorini escape: a cool haven of barefoot luxury and pleasure that consists of breathtaking vistas, exciting architecture, sophisticated interiors and impeccable service. Each of this Santorini hotel’s 40 vaulted rooms, suites and villas boasts ample spaces, a private pool and will enthral guests with front row seats to the island’s world famous sunsets, as well as great panoramic views of the caldera, with villages comprised of traditional white cube houses scattered along the cliff’s edge.

Property is located in the heart of Mykonos Town. Looking down towards Chora’s irresistibly pretty plateau of white-washed Cyclades houses, the Belvedere Mykonos luxury accommodation stands for all that is beautiful in the Cyclades Islands and Greece.

Your favorite tourist spots?
Delos – Where light was born. It’s a UNESCO world heritage site. It’s an ark of history, floating lazily on the waters of the Aegean Sea, just a few miles away from cosmopolitan Mykonos. It’s a chance to walk around the revival of the glory of the Greek civilization. It’s the head priest of the Cyclades, the birthplace of the immortals. It’s Delos.

Most memorable moments?
It has to be the sunsets in Santorini. The most romantic island in Greece.

Try any interesting cuisine?
The cuisine was very similar to our food that we have in South Africa, but oh boy, it was amazing! Greece is well-known for it’s lamb dishes and salads. Everything is fresh and unbelievably tasty. The best part is that the Greek people believe that every meal is a celebration and a lunch can go on for 4-6 hours.

Favourite item you bought?
I always make a ‘pit-stop’ at Hugo Boss and always make sure I have a few items as it is such a classic and timeless fashion label.

If you could travel with a Hollywood celebrity, who would it be and why?
Definitely Cameron Diaz. She is gorgeous and seems like so much fun! I know she can dance so hitting the night clubs with her will be such a treat.

What do you love the most about travelling?
I love the fact that you can explore the world and enjoy all the different cultures all over the world, and still come back to South Africa and appreciate what we have in this beautiful country.

Best beauty tip for travelling?
Always use sunscreen that has a lasting benefit. When you enjoy the sightseeing you can easily forget to protect one’s skin, and always drink as much water as possible.

How often do you travel?
I try to travel at least twice a year.

What do you need for the perfect holiday?
I don’t need anything, just to enjoy the setting whether it’s warm or cold, any country can be amazing if you embrace what they have to offer.

Dream holiday destination and why?
At the moment I would love a holiday where there is not a lot of people, white sandy beaches, blue and warm water and lots of wine…

Francois Louw

Best holiday ever?
It was definitely Rio de Janeiro. Not only is it beautiful, the sightseeing is to die for, the food is tasty, the drinks are strong, and the parties are memorable. A all in one holiday.

Best piece of travel advice?
Always do your homework before you go to get the best out of your destination. If you do not have time, a private tour guide is the absolute best option to go for. They will always show you their hidden local gems!

Where to next?
Next trip is in December. We are planning a trip to Austria to enjoy a white Christmas.
