Get ready, Mzansi! There’s another exciting local adaptation of one of our favourite E! game shows coming to our screens later this year. After the recent success of ‘How Do I Look? South Africa’, E! has decided to commission a local adaptation of the popular ‘Celebrity Game Night’ – and it’s set to air in late 2019.
Celebrity Game Night is based on the Primetime Emmy Award winning series Hollywood Game Night, hosted by Jane Lynch. In each episode, two teams of celebrity guests will face-off as they play hilarious and outrageous party games that test pop culture knowledge, acting skills and nerves of steel. Adding to the atmosphere, this local commission will feature a local host who will guide African celebrities through their evening and ensure the game night is filled with fun and frolics.
“With outstanding success as an international format, Celebrity Game Night is perfectly placed as the latest local production for E! Africa. I’m excited to bring local nuances to this fun, high-energy series, which will feature the best of African pop culture and celebrity,” commented Lee Raftery, Managing Director, UK Emerging Markets and Chief Marketing & Content Officer, NBCUniversal International. “As we celebrate 15 years of E! in Africa, in partnership with DStv, and follow on from recent success with How Do I Look? South Africa, this commission demonstrates our continued commitment to creating impactful local content which reflects the market.”
Celebrity Game Night will go into production in July 2019 and the series is set to premiere late 2019 on E! (DStv channel 124). Details on the host and the celebrity participants will be announced in due course.
