Artist Spotlight: Daughtry
American rockers, Daughtry, have come a long way since lead singer Chris Daughtry’s days on the hit reality show American Idol. Since appearing on the show back in 2006, Daughtry have become one of the most successful rock bands out of America. Their debut album shot to the top of the charts and became the best-selling album of 2007 according to Billboard selling over a staggering four million albums.
The Grammy-nominated band has also toured all over the world and has even made stops right here in South Africa. The band has often been mistaken as Chris’ solo project but after the success he has on American Idol, Chris decided to go the direction bands like Bon Jovi and Van Halen went and use his surname as the band’s official name. “We could’ve come out with a really obscure name, but coming from the TV show and having name recognition, it was easier just to go with my last name.” Chris said. “Steel Dragon would have been great. Rainbow Butt Monkeys would have also been great, but that was taken.”
Not only have Daughtry sold over 8 million albums and 22.6 million digital tracks in the U.S. alone, but they’ve also been nominated for the American Music Awards, Grammy Awards and the Billboard awards to name a few. To celebrate a decade of Daughtry, the band dropped their first greatest hits collection titled “It’s Not Over… The Hits So Far” which, naturally, features 11 of their biggest singles to date from their four studio albums and two brand new tracks.
Daughtry’s brand new greatest hits album has just been released and our friends over at Sony Music Africa have given us five copies of his new album to give away. Want a copy?
