We chat to her about new show, her forthcoming cookbook, what it takes to host the perfect event and so much more!
You’re a ballet dancer, television presenter and, recently we found out about your cooking and event planning skills. Do you have any other hidden talents that we should know about?
I don’t know if they qualify as talents but I’m an entrepreneur and I can also make people laugh.
Celebrities are known for wanting extra-special treatment, what is the craziest request you’ve received as a hostess?
The craziest thing has always been time – people expect miraculous things to happen in a very short space of time.
What would you say is the most important thing to remember on the day of any event that you’re hosting?
I always try and picture myself as the guest and ask myself what I would like to feel and hear as I walk in – It’s important to try and see everything from the perspective of the guest.
There’s word on the street that you’ll be releasing your first cook book soon, how true is that?
That is very true, my cook book is in the pipeline. There is a lot happening, I’m also planning to get into farming.
What is your signature dish?
I make an amazing oxtail. I love hearty food, stuffed fish and wholesome family type of food.
You opened your first restaurant not so long ago, how is that going?
Probably the toughest business I’ve ever gotten into, but I’m learning the ropes as I go. I’m very hopeful and I think it has amazing potential. It’s called the Great Basket and it’s located in Morningside Shopping centre, which is an amazing location.
When you walk into an event what is the first thing that grabs your attention?
It’s always the décor and the atmosphere – how it’s it balanced out and the energy around.
What do you love the most about your show – The Hostess with Lorna Maseko?
I love the fact that I’m involved as one of the executive producers. I’m working with an amazing team, and that allows for the show to be better because we’re all committed to making it a great. And just the fact that I have my own show. Not a lot of people can say that they have their own show man, plus I’m doing what I love.
What are the top three tips to throwing a good party?
1.Food must be great
2. Lots of beverages
3. And good planning.
