Beauty And The Briefcase

THEY say dress for the job you want, not the job you have. In the workplace looking put-together and polished is almost as important as the job itself. The same goes for your beauty routine. But don’t overdo it! Don’t let OTT eyebrows and crazy contouring distract colleagues (and the boss) from your professional side. Stick to these fuss-free work-approved tips for instant workplace success.

Hair

Don’t: Go too crazy with trends. Adopting new hairstyles is always fun, however there are some limitations. If you work in a professional environment, you may want to check your employee handbook before trying the latest cut, style or hue.

Do: On days when you don’t have time to style (or wash), make use of a stylish bun. This is a fail-proof way to look put together. Other options include a chic braid or a polished pony. The best tip for office hair: keep it looking healthy.

Eyes

Don’t: Who doesn’t love all things lash-related, but please save the faux lashes for Saturday night. Can you imagine they fall off mid-presentation? Embarrassing.

Do: Keep it simple. Swipe a neutral eyeshadow over your lids. To brighten up eyes in a flash, use a subtle shimmer in the corners of the eyes.

Lips

Don’t: If you work in a strict office setting, skip the bright coloured lipstick. And the black lip colour too for that matter.

Do: Stash a pretty neutral pink lip colour in your desk drawer. It’ll subtly perk up your entire face, but won’t leave a gross rim on your coffee cup.

Nails

Don’t: Sorry, nail-art lovers: bedazzled or glittery nails have no place in an office setting. Neither does stiletto nails.

Do: The most important thing is to make sure your tips are neat and manicured. Light pinks and neutrals are easy no-brainers.

Perfume:

Don’t: If you need a little midday spritz, it’s always best to do it outside or in the bathroom – not at your desk.

Do: If you wear perfume, make sure the scent is light and isn’t offensive to your co-workers.

Carli

I am Beauty Editor at People Magazine and a make-up artist. I have worked with many celebrities, including, Phumeza Mdaba, Boity, Zuraida Jardine and Rolene Strauss. I always knew I would work in magazines, as I grew up in publishing (my parents are publishers). When I’m not writing beauty or following my passion for make-up, I can be found reading and spending time with family and friends. I am also a tea-lover
