Mzansi Celebs Turn Up For #RareSparkle Launch
Suzy Jessica Mukendi, our lively and larger-than-life Fashion Editor at People Magazine South Africa launched her first ever #RareSparkle fashion collection which was inspired by all those who’ve battled cancer at some point in their lives. The exclusive glitzy and glamourous affair was hosted by Scarlet Ribbon in Stoneridge Shopping Centre, Greenstone, Johannesburg on Saturday 18 March 2017.
Suzy passionately shares,”My fashion show was all about showcasing my designs with the focus around cancer. The purpose of the event was to not only support the cause but break away from the stereotype of the fashion industry as well as cancer only being focused on in October. Every day someone is diagnosed with cancer so why should the work and support only be done in October? We are in a society where many people have role models and are influenced by each other. So at the end of the day we have the power to touch lives, challenge them and create a different dialogue.”
An inspiring thought indeed with an aspirational vision that knows no bounds. Suzy spend about four months on her collection, she was inspired by all those who have courageously put up a good fight against the dreaded cancerous diseases of every kind. Suzy’s sister Aurelie couldn’t hide her joy and happiness. On the night of the event she shared with a smile,”Yes, the whole family is truly happy for Suzy but we can now all FINALLY go to sleep without hearing the noise of the sewing machine at 1 am every day.”
The audience was wowed by a fashion-forward and edgy collection made of satin, plastic, velvet and faux fur which was modelled by Farah Dayla, Nompumelelo Maduna, Natasha Marks and Jade Caknis. Models’ hair was styled by Riaan Wright and makeup was done by Aurelie Mukendi and Jade Caknis. The MC for the night was Naledi Moleo with stellar performances from Rogue Crew, M-I-C, Sound Visual Crew and contestant from The Voice SA, Bryce MacMillan. Essential Groove kept people dancing all night long with delicious eats and treats from Chateau Gateaux.
