Chace Crawford has admitted he went through the "ugly duckling" phase.

The Gossip Girl star has a legion of female fans across the globe thanks to his role as charming Nate Archibald in the hit TV drama series.

Although Chace is admired for his hunky good looks, the actor says this wasn't always the case. He has admitted to going through an "ugly duckling" phase.

"Yes, of course! I had the whole blonde highlights thing - my mum did them for me," he laughed in an interview with more! magazine.

Chace says his fashion choices weren't always the most desirable either. The 26-year-old star has recalled his most embarrassing style crime.

"I also wore terrible shell necklaces," he cringed. "Don't tell anyone though."

Chace has previously revealed he works hard to achieve his buff physique. Whenever the star goes for a fitness session he makes sure he has the perfect soundtrack to keep him pumped up.

"I just put on some Led Zeppelin, When the Levee Breaks. I like the old school rock stuff, maybe a little Lupe Fiasco. I like rock, Nirvana and ACDC," he previously admitted. © Cover Media
